The search giant is going to invest considerably more in the development of its own chips. That reports financial press agency Bloomberg. Google has bought more than 16 experienced chip designers from, among others, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Nvidia and lastly one at Apple.

Logical step for Google

The new chip team would be set up in Bangalore. There are many traditional chip manufacturers in this city in India and a lot of talent can be found. The search giant would still have 13 vacancies to fill in and quickly scale up.

Google wants to set up its own chip team in logical. The company already designs its own hardware for servers and artificial intelligence on a small scale. With the Pixel phones, however, the company is increasingly active as a maker of its own smartphones. This is done entirely according to the Apple model. Google designs the hardware and also the software, but buys chips externally. In the past, the search giant has already indicated that it wants to make its own chips for smartphones.

Apple is now taking the next step

Apple launched its first, personal smartphone chip in 2010. It was the A4 chip for the iPhone 4 and iPad 1. Since then the company from Cupertino has a well-oiled machine that impresses with innovative chips every year. Creating a proprietary system-on-a-chip (SoC) enables Apple to fine-tune hardware and software. You notice that not only by the speed but also by the battery life and software support. Because the company hardly has to take into account of third-party components, older iOS devices such as the iPhone or iPad can also receive software updates for a long time.

While Google works to stand where Apple stood in 2010, the iPhone maker is already working on a new project. In addition to own chips, the company from Cupertino also wants to make its own modems. This way it can also play a pioneering role in the 5G revolution.
